A Montana Sunset

I sat alone in the evening
The trials of a day were through
And watched the sun sink slowly
From a field of azure blue

The gold and yellow mingled
With the wisps of misty blue
And in a higher, darker sky
A star came shining through

The colors blazed in the heavens
Abeautiful sight to see
They gleamed like an open bonfire
Out on the lone prairie

I turned to the house in silence
There was nothing I could say
I had seen a miracle of colors
And the promise of a bright new day

Who could describe a picture
Who could even try
When the Artist has run rampant
With His paintbrush in the sky
